About

Louis Nicoll is a classically trained pianist and comedian living in Melbourne. He completed his Bachelor of Music with first class honours in 2018 at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, supported by the M&E Kefford and Sir William McKie scholarships, and a Masters of Music (Performance) in 2023 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music supported by the Clarence Addisson Turill and Chapple/Bremner scholarships.

While still a student, he won first prize in Melbourne Youth Orchestra’s 2016 ‘Virtuosity’ competition, performing Liszt’s ‘Totentanz’ for orchestra and piano. Since graduating, Louis has performed internationally, undertaking numerous tours of Mozart’s music in China with Australian International Productions, and has been invited to perform recitals for the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall and Tempo Rubato.

After finishing his undergraduate, Louis started to enter the world of comedy, being a producer and then cast member in the 2019 and 2020 Melbourne University Law Revue, and cast member of sketch comedy podcast Rumpusville in 2021. In the same year, Louis started a masters’ degree at Sydney Conservatorium, and received the Paulette Isabel Jones completion scholarship for his research into Liszt and gender, research which he was invited to present at the 2022 Journey into History conference.

In 2022, he started doing standup comedy, and was a state finalist for NSW in the 2023 RAW comedy competition. In 2024, Louis and collaborator Kit Millais commissioned and premiered Flawed, a new composition by Julia Potter, at Tempo Rubato. Louis also accompanied Marcel Blanch-de Wilt’s comedy show Let me Eat Cake, and Nicola de Rosbo-Davies’ show Spark. In 2025, Louis performed Lisztomania at MICF and MFF, an original hour-long comedy and classical piano show about composer Franz Liszt, the subject of his MMuS degree.

Louis accompanies and teaches many students on the piano, and frequently tours China with Australian International Productions, as well as performing frequently at retirement homes and other events in Melbourne. On the comedy side, Louis is active in Melbourne’s open mic scene and hopes to continue to develop as a performer who does both comedy AND classical piano AT the same time.
